Because the Flu is Nothing to Sneeze At!
The flu is spread by aerosol droplets that are propelled into the
air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
Because these droplets can travel as far as 25 feet, no one
in the same room with an infected person can possibly avoid contact
with the flu bug.
The best way to reduce the chances of getting the flu is simply to
be vaccinated.
The flu is more than just a cold.
Symptoms can be severe, including body aches, exhaustion,
high fever, respiratory inflammation, congestion, cough and more.
You could be out of commission for a week, with some symptoms
lingering for up to a month.
For those considered high-risk, consequences may even be
fatal.
High-Risk includes:
-
people over the age of 50
-
nursing home or assisted living residents
-
those with heart disease, diabetes, kidney disorders, a
blood disorder, or an impaired immune system.
-
Women who are pregnant or expect to be pregnant during
flu season
-
Anyone who will be in contact with anyone in these
groups – which means virtually
everyone!

VNA
of the Florida Keys is pleased to be able to once again arm the
residents of Monroe
County and South
Florida against the onslaught of this year’s strain of
influenza.
Remember, the best protection is prevention – get yourself
vaccinated today!
Prevention is important in avoiding serious illness. Did you
know that, while there is a season for flu, you can have the
pneumonia vaccine
administered any time of year? Also, to protect against the
painful onslaught of shingles,
there is now Zostavax. We administer Zostavax
by appointment only and Pneumovax is available during flu clinics or
by appointment after flu season has ended. If you have any questions,
or would like to set an appointment, please do not hesitate to contact us by e-mailing:
